June 8 - Benefits

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget His benefits.  He forgives all my offenses; He heals all my diseases.   Psalm 103:2-3

These are treacherous days in our world.  Unemployment continues to affect literally billions of people on this planet.  When we do land a job, one of the things that has become more and more important is the topic of benefits.

Is health insurance offered?  Dental?  Retirement?  What used to be regarded as perks are now necessities.

Of course, our Creator offers the best benefits package by far.

Forgiveness.  Healing.

We may die without insurance.

But we can't live without forgiveness and healing.

What jumps out at you in these verses?

  1. Benefits are for workers.
I've also heard He offers great fire insurance.

  2. What jumps out at me is how the LORD can meet your deepest need first and you can really reap the benefits.

  3. "He heals all my diseases"

This is a hard verse to read for myself and for many who deal with diseases. We want the overnight miracle and that is not always the healing God provides. I have struggled with JRA since 1994 and I have asked many times, WHY?...Why does someone else get an answered prayer about a car or some other worldly item while I still deal with a disease. But when I opened my ears to truly hear, God spoke through many different people and paths. He has led our family through many challenges and questions and in it all I HAVE received a healing. Not the kind I ever expected. More importantly, He has given me the ability to reach out to others and show them the path as well. I could definitely sing the praises of our Lord through a miraculous overnight healing, but oh how much more I have been able to sing his praises through the path He chose to lead me down. And I continue to follow that path. I do not go back to my old ways of living. I do not live like the world, for the world's ways will only bring pain and suffering.

Reading between the lines here (is that allowed?) I see that for those of us with a roof over our head and plenty to eat, it is easy to see those things that God takes care of for us. But if you wake up each morning hungry and have to move from shelter to shelter just to get the kids something to eat, God’s love and providence may be lost in the haze.

So it makes those of us who ARE able to help more obligated to take care of the basics for those around us who need some help. Once they have full tummies and a place to sleep they can peek out of the foxhole to see all of God’s glory, including forgiveness and healing.

  5. I really like RK's perspective. So often I think in terms of healing as a relief from physical pain or disease. To hear how God has worked in her life and through her disease, and how she can see the healing He provides her reminds me that He is at work, it's just that often I don't have the eyes to see the broader aspects of His healing touch.
